How I Got Miner Alts and a New Main

Hello, fellow travelers of Mir4. In my previous blog post, I told you how I joined Sicarios, one of the strongest clans in NA43, and how I became friends with Coroking, the new king of NA43. I also told you how I participated in the war against RRGGs and their allies in the valley. Today, I want to continue my story and tell you what happened next. Since this is a new blog, I decided to make the first series of posts about my history and story so far, so that you can get to know me better and catch up with the present day. After that, I will focus on recent events and progress as they happen.

The Mining Changes

So, at the start of this period, I had three characters: my main characters Laozi 老子 the Taoist, and Lao Tzu 老子 the Arbalist, both level 85, and my mining alt Laozinho 老子 the Lancer who was level 69. I would mainly farm experience on my main characters while the mining alt would spend all day in the Snake Valley 3F mining pit collecting dark steel.

Then WeMade, the developers of Mir4, on July 12, 2022, made changes to how the valleys work. They adjusted the amount of dark steel generation for each valley and applied level requirements for each floor. They also changed how dark steel gain is influenced by the level of mine in conquest and how dark steel merchant works. You can see the details of these changes here: https://forum.mir4global.com/post/910

These changes made it more difficult for me to mine in the valley and I had to level up my characters to access the new areas. Previously, Snake 3F and Redmoon 3F had similar dark steel production, and you had to get level 75 to unlock the Redmoon Valley area anyway in the main quest, so I didn’t have a reason to progress my miner beyond level 69, and Snake 3F was fine. But as of this change, level 70 was needed for Snake 3F so he couldn’t even mine anymore. Getting from 69 to 70 was easy but also due to the reduction in dark steel in Snake 3F and the increase in Redmoon 3F, where now not even my main characters can mine (level 90 required), it created a challenge for me.

Getting Miner Alts

Since up until this point I had not invested any money in the game, and selling dark steel from my mining alt was my main way to get gold to donate to the clan for expeditions, I needed to find a solution. I had about $300 to my name in real life and decided instead of spending it to buy gold, buying some new characters would be a better use for it since level 90 characters were selling for under $100. I could get three. I had some spare mini-PCs available to use to run the extra characters and I can control them with TeamViewer.

So I searched for NFT characters that had both of the epic mining pets on the Xdraco.com market. Xdraco.com is a website that allows players to buy or sell their characters as NFTs for real money or cryptocurrency. The first one I found was a level 90 arbalist named Lady Noba. The second that I found was a level 90 Taoist named J3MBUT MUBLE who I renamed to Laozinha 老子. In searching for a third one, I found a level 100 character with both mining pets named Le Andrus for under $100. I purchased all three and loaded them on NA43.

Now I was playing six characters. It seemed more reasonable to mine with level 100 since it was about 15 levels ahead of my main characters. I thought it would be better to keep leveling Lao Tzu until she reached level 90 then make her a full-time miner and use level 100 as my new main arbalist to go with my Taoist. This would also help my Taoist level up faster. I renamed the level 100 character to DTM Laozi 老子 and the war went on. Laozinho 老子 would need to continue farming EXP to level up to 90 as well.

It took about a month to get Lao Tzu 老子 and Laozi 老子 up to level 90 to be able to mine again. This was a good decision for me and I benefited from the dark steel and gold income. To this day, it’s still the only $300 I’ve invested into the game.

The War Strategy

As a result of the mining changes, the dark steel supply was greatly reduced causing an increase in the dark steel price. Also, whereas the Bicheon, Snake, and Redmoon valleys all previously had about equal production of tax income, they had equal value as war targets. But now Redmoon Valley would be the most valuable territory by far, producing more tax than Snake and Bicheon combined.

This meant that the war strategy of the server changed as well. The RRGGs and their allies focused their attacks on Redmoon Valley, trying to take it from Sicarios and DTMs who owned it. They also tried to raid the Redmoon World Bosses every day to get more loot and gold. The Sicarios and DTMs defended their territory with all their might, using their high-level players and skills to repel the invaders. The battles in Redmoon Valley were epic and intense, with hundreds of players fighting for hours.

My Role in the War

My role in the war also changed with my new main character. As a level 100 arbalist, I had more damage and survivability than my level 85 Taoist. I also had more fun playing as an arbalist, shooting arrows and bombs at my enemies. I still used my Taoist to heal and resurrect my allies, but I switched to my arbalist when I wanted to deal some damage and kill some enemies.

I also used my miner alts to help my clan in the war. I would send them to mine in Redmoon Valley 3F when it was safe, and then switch them to auto-attack mode when it was under attack. They had decent equipment and skills so that they could contribute to the defense or offense of the valley. They also helped me get more dark steel and gold, which I used to upgrade my main character’s equipment and skills.

I will continue my story from here in the next blog post.
