How I Became Laozi, a Taoist in Mir4

This is the first in a series of posts that will cover my personal history and journey so far, how I followed the Way, and what moves me to play this game.

I discovered Mir4 in November 2021, two months after the game was released. A Twitch streamer I know was playing it with some of her friends. I was drawn by the game style, the combat system, and the spirit of this game. I decided to join them and created my first character.

I chose the name Laozi 老子 and the class Taoist. In my later life, I found myself inspired by Taoism, a philosophy and religion that originated in ancient China. Taoism teaches that everything in the universe is interconnected and follows a natural order, called the Tao or the Way. Taoists seek to live in harmony with the Tao, by being flexible, adaptable, and spontaneous. They also practice meditation, martial arts, and alchemy to cultivate their inner energy or qi.

I joined their clan, called The Cult. They were very kind and generous and taught me the basics of the game. I quickly reached level 10 and joined their clan officially. It was fun and rewarding to explore the game with them. I met many other players along the way, some friendly and some hostile. I learned to respect everyone’s choices and cooperate with others when possible.

We played on server NA22. The leaders only played for a few weeks. They were interested in the Play-2-Earn aspect of Mir4, but they realized that it was not for them. They collected some dark steel and saw the crafting requirements for Epic and Legendary equipment. They decided to move on to other games. Bobby and I kept playing though, but The Cult went dormant.

As I progressed in the game, I realized that Mir4 is not just a game. It is a living world, full of opportunities and dangers, where every action has a consequence. It is also a reflection of myself, where I can express my creativity, my personality, and my values. It is a place where I can learn from my mistakes, grow from my achievements, and discover new aspects of myself.

That is why I decided to create this blog, to share with you my insights and experiences in this game. I hope you will find them interesting and useful. In the next post, I will tell you more about how I expanded my horizons by creating six more characters of different classes and clans. Stay tuned!

The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
The nameless is the origin of heaven and earth.
The name is the mother of myriad things.
Thus, constantly without desire, one observes its essence.
Constantly with desire, one observes its manifestations.
These two emerge together but differ in name.
The unity is said to be the mystery.
Mystery of mysteries, the door to all wonders.
